
Dimapur, Dec. 29 (EMN): The 12th Surumi Awards presentation ceremony for academic excellence was held at Surumi Baptist Church (Aizuto) on Wednesday.
The director of Higher Education and SAT Trustee, Dr. N Katoni Jakhalu, who was the guest speaker, said in their time a simple degree was enough to get a job or get things done, an update stated.
“But now, even if one is equipped with multiple degrees, competitive examination is the only option for the educated youth. So, it's high time for youths to realise this and work harder for achieving their goal,” Jakhalu said.
She stated that since government sector is overcrowded, they educated youth should search for other avenues in private sectors.
Jakhalu also shared that schools should start skill development curriculum/courses and cited examples of Baichung Bhutia, Mary Kom, Narendra Modi and Ambani, and how hard work could turn an ordinary person into a successful person. She also reminded the congregation that people from outside the state have recognised Northeast people as creative and talented.
“But the problem is that we are unable to channelise it into reality and utility,” she lamented.
Jakhalu further illustrated how Mary Kom became successful with her space management skills and lauded Surumi Award Trust (SAT) for their efforts in encouraging and motivating students to excel academically.
She concluded her speech with an African saying, "It takes a village to educate a child."
The presentation ceremony, chaired by Ilikiye Yeptho, started with an invocation by Ashibo Zhimo and welcome speech delivered by Vitoyi Awomi, VCC.
Pastors Hekuto Aye and Hito Chishi offered special prayers for the awardees and successful candidates of various competitive examinations.
The roll of honour SAT Akighiche Saxu 2022 recipients are Nikito Awomi (village based), Mount View School, Suruhuto; Vikai Sumi (Suruhuto area), Mount View School, Suruhuto; Sulimi G Jakhalu (urban NBSE), Cornerstone HSS, Zunheboto, and K Kaito Awomi (urban other boards), St. JGS, Ikishe (Chümoukedima).
Kili Sumi of Mount View School, Suruhuto, bagged the SAT-PGLAAMC Award for the subject topper in MIL (Sumi).
SAT-SJET Award for overall NBSE toppers amongst Surumi students are Elina H Sumi (2021), Mount View School, Suruhuto and Sulimi G Jakhalu (2022), Cornerstone HSS, Zunheboto.
All the awardees received citations and cash prize of INR 20,000 each, it stated.
