Dimapur, Nov. 12 (EMN): Supply of sand to Dimapur resumed on Thursday after it was halted for a few days in the aftermath of an assault on four truck drivers and one handyman allegedly by members of the Sand Mahaldar and Suppliers Association (SMSA) on November 9 at Manja of Karbi Anglong district in Assam ‘for not paying tax’.
A member of the truck drivers’ union in Karbi Anglong informed Eastern Mirror that the SMSA members beat up four truck drivers and one handyman who were transporting sand to Dimapur on November 9 at around 2 am.
“The sand trucks have been halted in Manja since November 9 and are set to resume (sand supply) today (Thursday),” informed the member.
He said that the attackers, numbering two or three persons, fled the scene after assaulting the drivers and handyman. They are still absconding, it was informed.
“An FIR has been lodged at the Manja police station and the hunt for the accused persons is on,” informed the member.
Further, a member of the Karbi Anglong sand supplier association, who wished not to be named, assured that strict action would be taken against the perpetrators and compensation given to the victims.
“All hospital bills and necessary payments will be made to the victims and we will take strict action against those persons once caught,” said the member.
