Dimapur, Nov. 28 (EMN):A ‘supply chain management’ system was inaugurated for Dimapur, on Nov. 28, by DK Gupta, the director of Public Distribution of the ministry of Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs. The facility was inaugurated at the directorate of Food and Civil Supplies, in Dimapur.
According to updates from the DIPR on Wednesday, Gupta was said to have told the gathering that the system was a powerful monitoring tool to track stock inventory starting from warehouses to fair price shops. The application will make beneficiaries aware about the availability of food grains, he said.
Congratulating the directorate of Food and Civil Supplies; NIC of Dimapur and all officials who were involved in the development of the application, Gupta said, “It is a big achievement for the state of Nagaland.”
According to the DIPR, Nagaland has completed ‘all activities for beneficiaries’ stipulated by the National Food Security Act except for a component called FPS Automation that is pending, Gupta said. He encouraged the department to complete it at the earliest.
According to an order of the Supreme Court, the DIPR quoted DK Gupta, beneficiaries availing subsidised food grains in Nagaland and across the country are compulsorily required to ‘seed their ration cards with Aadhaar’ on or before March 31 2019.
Nagaland ‘covers 2,84,934 ration cards with 14, 01,378 beneficiaries, according to the DIPR. An official of the NIC at Dimapur, Lipok was stated to have said that the targeted public distribution system (TPDS) had been computerised to meet challenges of timely procurement and distribution of food grains.
The supply chain management will ensure stock position information of storage facilities in the state besides tracking movement of grains, ‘which would be a powerful instrument to the department for effective decision making and ensure timely distribution of food grains to the beneficiaries,’ the DIPR explained.
The updates stated that a three-member team led by DK Gupta, of the Ministry of Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs; Kumaran from the central project management; and Sumit from Delhi NIC, in collaboration with Dimapur NIC
developed the supply chain management application.
