Nagaland MP S Supongmeren Jamir has written to Ashwini Vaishnaw raising concerns of contractual staff at Doordarshan Nagaland.
DIMAPUR — Member of Parliament to the Lok Sabha from Nagaland, S Supongmeren Jamir, has taken up the issue of contractual employees working under Prasar Bharati (Doordarshan), Nagaland, with Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting, Railways and Electronics & Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw.
In a letter dated August 11, Jamir highlighted the concerns of contractual employees serving in both the engineering and programme sections of Doordarshan, Nagaland.
The MP pointed out that the existing contractual employees were engaged through proper public advertisements and interviews and are entrusted with responsibilities similar to those performed by regular staff.
Their duties include technical maintenance, studio operations, transmission, and programme execution, which are essential to the smooth functioning of daily broadcast operations.

Despite carrying out these responsibilities with sincerity and commitment, the contractual employees continue to work without adequate job security, a structured pay system, and basic service benefits, the MP stated.
Jamir, therefore, urged the union minister to consider the matter on humanitarian grounds and sought the following measures:
Formulation of a policy for regularisation/absorption, giving due consideration to the employees' experience and length of service.
Implementation of a proper pay structure based on the principle of equal pay for equal work.
Provision of job security for contractual employees.
Extension of basic service benefits, including EPF, medical facilities, and leave provisions.
The MP also made a specific plea for special recruitment in both the engineering and programme sections for Nagaland, highlighting the need to strengthen the manpower of Doordarshan in the state.
