DIMAPUR — Esa Warriors and Chumou Veterans registered wins in their respective matches in the third edition of the Super Masters League (SML) played on January 10 in Chümoukedima.
In the first match, Nzon CC won the toss and opted to field, a decision that backfired as Esa Warriors went on to register the highest score of the tournament, piling up 242/2 in 20 overs, according to a press release.
The standout batter was Alongba Pongen, who scored 90 off just 34 balls, falling short of a century. He was supported by Pankaj Ghosh, who smashed 83 off 38 balls. Together, they stitched the highest partnership of the tournament.
In reply, Nzon CC were bundled out for just 60. Capping off an all-round performance, Alongba Pongen also claimed a five-wicket haul and was named the man of the match.
In the second match, Chumou Veterans won the toss and opted to bat, posting 146/6 in 20 overs. Abenthung Lotha anchored the effort with a composed 54 not out off 43 balls, while Asu Sakhru contributed 58 off 32 balls.
For Lhomithi SC, Yanpothung picked up three wickets and contributed 21 runs with the bat.
In the chase, Khitilo Rengma (35 runs) and Hino Chishi (26 runs) attempted to steady Lhomithi’s innings, but disciplined bowling from the Chumou Veterans halted the chase.
For his all-round performance of 54 runs and a three-wicket haul, Abenthung Lotha was awarded man of the match.
