Apparently, these two Tata Sumos were putting on a bit of weight with forged documentations until Kohima police caught them slim in the shade. Two taxis have been impounded by the Kohima police on Thursday after they were found with what the authorities said were forged vehicle documents. The Kohima police issued a press release on Thursday informing of the case.
On March 24, personnel of the Anti Vehicle Theft Squad, DIB of Kohima DEF Kohima and A/10 NAP (IR) personnel conducted routine checking of vehicles at the old bye-pass check-gate in Kohima. They detained on suspicion a taxi, a Tata Sumo, bearing the registration number NL-07T-0159, chassis number 483DL47KVZ720396, and engine number 446151KVZ934799.
“On thorough verification being made upon the seized vehicle, the engine and chassis number mentioned in the vehicle documents did not tally with the engine and chassis number engraved in the seized vehicle,” the authorities said.
The press release stated: “In this connection one person identified as Athisü Mao (23 yrs) S/o - Loli Mao, Village - Kalinamai, PO/PS - Mao, Dist - Senapati, Manipur, P/Addr - Mao Gate was taken into custody and a regular case vide Kohima North PS Case No. 0026/16 U/S 467/478/471 IPC is registered against him for conducting further investigation.”
In another case, this one also on the 24th, another Tata Sumo, also a taxi, was detained by the enforcement. The vehicle bore the registration number NL-01T-7515, chassis number MAT446502C9B09638, and engine number 497SPTC43BXYE14547.
The vehicle was stopped by enforcement personnel during routine checking of vehicles, the police said.
The press release read: “During physical verification of the said vehicle the chassis and engine number engraved in the vehicle and the vehicle documents did not tally. One person identified as Athirü Mao(29 yrs) S/o - Ashiko Mao, Village - Ragunamai, PO/PS - Mao, Dist- Senapati, Manipur, P/Addr - Mao Gate was arrested on the charge of plying with forged vehicles documents.”
“In this connection a regular case Vide Kohima South PS Case No. 0013/16 U/S 467/478/471 IPC is registered against the arrested person for conducting further investigation,” the police added.
In another case yet again, the Kohima police recovered on Saturday a truck said to have been stolen and wanted in a case in Guwahati, Assam. Kohima police issued a press release on Saturday informing that they had recovered a truck bearing the registration number AS01CC-0497, chassis number 373341LWZ129543, and engine number 697TC45KWZ119285 “which was stolen from Assam in 2015 and is presently wanted in connection with Noonmati Guwahati City P.S Case No. 0026/2015.”
On verification undertaken by the police, the stolen truck was found to have been “allotted another registration number as NL03A-2412 by D.T.O Tuensang on 18th February 2016.”
The truck was using the registration number NL03A-2412 when caught by the police, the press release stated.
In another incident, a white Mahindra Bolero bearing the registration number NL07C-2948 was seized by the police. The police said that it was “plying with fictitious smart card.”
During investigation, it is ascertained that the original registration number NL07C-2948 is allotted to a Ford Figo Titanium (1.4) by D.T.O Dimapur and not to the seized Bolero which is presently in police custody.
