
DIMAPUR — The inaugural summer open tournament (futsal and volleyball) for both men and women, organised by COLA KBAYD Ahthibung town, commenced at the public ground, Ahthibung town, Peren district, on Tuesday.
The opening ceremony was attended by L Alex Singson, managing director of Singvung Construction and Infra. Pvt. Ltd. and Capt. Sandeep Pandey of 25th Assam Rifles, Ahthibung, as the chief guest and special guest, respectively, an update stated.
In his address, the chief guest expressed his fondness for futsal and lauded the organisers for creating a platform where the youth can harmonise their physical and spiritual life through sports.
Capt. Sandeep Pandey lauded the players for participating in the tournament rather than “making reels and spending unproductive times on social media.” He also emphasised that futsal can help the young players develop their skills and endurance for larger arenas, potentially leading to professional opportunities.
He further encouraged the players to incorporate the spirit of sportsmanship and contribute positively to the society.
The oath taking was administered by Lalminlen, in charge of games and sports. The vote of thanks on behalf of the organising committee was delivered by Thangminlen Lhanghal, president of KBAYD Nagaland.
A total of 101 teams will compete in futsal and volley ball events, both men and women. The tournament attracted players from all corners of Ahthibung sub-division as well as outside Peren district including Chümoukedima and Dimapur, it stated.
