Dimapur, Oct. 10 (EMN): The Sumi Students’ Union Delhi organised Delhi Sumi Annual Fellowship cum 27th Freshers’ Social on Oct. 6 at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Raj Niwas Marg, Civil Lines, New Delhi. Speaking on the theme of the event “Progress in unity,” chief guest,
Secretary Land Resources Y Kikheto Sema, said for any society to progress in unity, one has to start working from within, instead of depending on others.
“Once we Naga people start working on our own instead of depending on others, the illegal immigrants will have no space to survive and will eventually exit them from Nagaland in search of another place to survive,” he added.
While appreciated the students attending the programme in traditional attires preserving their culture and tradition, Kikheto said culture shouldn’t just be reflected in traditional attire but the attitude, behaviour and quality of life. He also encouraged the youngsters to revive the good values taught by our forefathers and that, the obsolete tradition and cultural practices should be done away with but carry forward the good values.
Reminding the primary focus of student studying in Delhi i.e. academic excellence and living an exemplary life, Kikheto told the gathering to be an asset for the people instead of becoming a liability for the society after completing their studies.
Citing that women these days are faring better than men in many aspects, he advocated that Naga society should give a chance to women to prove their mantle and encourage women to prepare themselves to lead the people.
While appreciating the presence of the various Naga tribal union representatives, Kikheto added that the need of an hour for the Naga people is to forgive and forget the past mistakes in order to progress in unity and work to be a better Naga/Sumi.
Kikheto further encouraged and reminded the students of their role as the future’s leader and advised them to have cordial relationship with neighbours to achieve new Nagaland and have land of peace, prosperity and unity.
President of SKKD Hikato Yepthomi delivered presidential address, invocation was offered by Jospeh Tuccu, special number by Ezra and Tomuto, speech on behalf of freshers by Kivipu Zhimomi, blessing for freshers by Pastor of SCFD Kaboto Kinimi and speech on behalf of old timers by Hinoto P Awomi.
