Dimapur, Nov. 25 (EMN): The Western Sumi Youth Front organised the 1st inter-area cultural competition at Niuland in Dimapur on Nov. 24. During the event, the government bulletin DIPR stated on Sunday, thousands of people from the Sumi community clad in colourful traditional attires and costumes participated in the competition.
The advisor for Skill Development, Labour and Employment and CAWD, Kazheto Kinimi, was the special guest during the morning session, the updates stated. He was stated to have spoken about the importance of preserving and promoting the rich culture and traditions of the Sumi community. The legislator was also said to have urged the Sumi people to communicate in Sumi language ‘so that it may be preserved.’ The advisor has urged them to take the community forward, it added.
Sumi youths from Dimapur, East Dimapur; Niuland, Aghunaqa, Sakipheto, Ato, Kuhuboto, Laghilato and Khaghaboto areas participated in culture-themed competitions during the event, the updates stated. In the evening session, senior treasury officer of Dimapur Khekaho Aye was the guest of honour, the updates stated. He was stated to have told the gathering that the Naga people have a rich and diverse cultural heritage, and for which he encouraged the gathering to ‘preserve and pass on to the younger generations’ the cultural wealth to posterity.
