Members of Sümi Baptist Theological Association mourn the demise of Rev. Nitovi Assumi on July 12, who passed away in his Dimapur home. He was 94.
The association stated in a message that that the church leader was born in October 1920 to Khuvishe and Zuhali of Littami Village under Zunheboto. “He married Martha in 1955 who left him in 2003 after living with him for 49 years. He studied up to class 3, a trained Bible teacher, musician and holds a certificate in gun-making from Jorhat,” the association stated.
The late reverend joined Christian ministry in 1948 and retired from active service in 1997. He was again roped in as an Honorary Pastor at Toluvi Baptist Church (WSBAK) in 2000 and later as Home Evangelist from 2005 until date. He has served the Sümi Baptist churches in various capacities as a C.E. Leader, Pastor, Teacher, music Teacher, evangelist, missionary and so on with SBAK (Aizuto), SBAK (Nito Mount), SABAK (Pughoboto) and WSBAK (Akuvuto). SABAK got affiliated to NBCC in 1988 when he was its Executive Secretary. He is survived by his 7 children and 20 grandchildren. The association stated in its message that the Sümi Baptist churches and associations have lost a great leader because he is one of the veterans who were associated with all the Sümi Baptist associations and held “key to reconciliation.”
“It’s a great loss especially for the upcoming Sümi theological students. The SBTA believes that he has fought the good fight and run the race assigned to him. May his soul rest in peace and may God grant solace to the bereaved family members,” the association stated.
