Sumi Chess Association Nagaland marked its silver jubilee in Dimapur with the 12th Sumi Chess Championship, featuring 79 players including the youngest at age 6 and the oldest at 73.

DIMAPUR — The Silver Jubilee celebration of the Sumi Chess Association Nagaland (SCAN) is underway at Hotel Acacia in Dimapur.
Commenced on August 20, Dr. K Inazhe Phuleshe, director (rtd.), Rural Development Department, attended the inaugural programme as the special guest, stated an update.
Dr. Phuleshe, on the occasion, gave a brief history of SCAN’s formation and the impact it had created so far. He stated that SCAN was formed on August 20, 2000, in Kohima by eight pioneers. During this period of 25 years, ten office bearers and main players have passed away.

Dr. Inazhe also encouraged the gathering with his personal and real-life experiences. A moment of silence was observed in memory of the departed pioneers.
In commemoration, the 12th Sumi Chess Championship is being organised, with a total of 79 chess enthusiasts participating. Among them, Yekhevi Yeptho, aged 73, is the oldest player. The youngest participants are Edlina Nini Kiba, aged 6, from Bloom Academy, Ekranipathar Dimapur, and Jeremy Nitova Zhimoni, aged 7, from NN Nagi School, Dimapur.
Inakhe Shiniho Jakhalu, president, gave the presidential address, while Toikhu Awomi, the first president of SCAN, presented the keynote address. The championship will conclude on August 22.
On the second day, Anato Zhimomi, renowned industrialist and philanthropist, opened the game as the match patron.
The front runners in the Open Category are Mughaho Awomi, Kughaho Kiho, and Toivi, while Thophimi, Kuxupu Achumi, and Apishe Kiba are leading in the U-18, U-14, and U-10 categories, respectively.
