DIMAPUR — The Sub-National Immunisation Day (SNID) Polio Day was observed in Noklak and Kiphire on October 12 to raise public awareness about the importance of immunising children against polio.
In Noklak, the programme was carried out in and around the town, organised by the office of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO). Polio immunisation booths were set up at various locations under Noklak district.
According to a DIPR report, the first drop of oral polio vaccine in the district was administered by SDO (Civil) Noklak, Vikhoto Richa, in the presence of Chief Medical Officer Noklak, Dr. Victor NC, and other district officials.
The district set a target to vaccinate 3,025 children between zero and five years of age. A total of 54 immunisation booths were set up. A house-to-house campaign was scheduled for October 13 and 14 to ensure that no child was missed.

The awareness drive aimed to inform parents and guardians about administering two drops of Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) to all children below five years.
Officials highlighted that although India has been declared polio-free, the disease still exists in a few countries, posing a potential risk of re-entry. The vaccination campaign was therefore essential to ensure continued protection and maintain India’s hard-earned victory over polio.
Along with the rest of India, Kiphire conducted the SNID Polio Day on October 12, immunising all children under the age of five years with two drops of Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) at five locations — District Hospital Kiphire, Local Ground, Traffic Point main town, South Zone Church, and Longthonger Junction.
The event was supervised by Dr. Yelo T Mero, district programme officer (RCH/UIP).
