The Eastern Nagaland College Students’ Union (ENCSU) has expressed support to the demand made by the Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) to hand over the 19 roads in the eastern regions from the Public Works Department to the Border Roads Organization.
“The people of eastern Nagaland had been patience enough to bear the partial attitude of Government of Nagaland since the attainment of statehood,” the organization claimed while adding, “Nagaland is already 52 years old and it is shameful to say that there is no road in the region but only drainage in the middle of the road where the people has to experience all the hardships to meet their daily needs.”
Observing the quality of service ‘low and unsatisfactory’ rendered by the state department, it demanded to hand over the 19 roads mentioned by ENSF immediately in the greater interest of the citizens. ENCUS claimed that the government has no serious concern to address the appeal and cry of the public. It said due to lack a good road, the growth of development in the region has been slow and also led to escalation of price of the commodities in the market.
The union also decided to extend its fullest cooperation and stand with ENSF in any situation, while it also asked all the members to prepare mentally and morally to face any consequences if the government fails to give positive respond.
In a related statement, Yangpi Students’ Union (YSU) and Litem Students’ Union (LSU) under Noksen area in Tuensang district have strongly supported the demand of the Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) for handing over the 19 major roads to BRO.
Stating that the demand of the Federation was authentic and the voice of the people, the two organisations appealed the concerned department, individuals, organizations and agencies not to misconstrue ENSF’s genuine demand. It said the road connecting from Tuensang to Noksen town is a lifeline for more than 20 villages. However, the said road has been left unattended by the Department for the last 50 years.
It also mentioned that due to pathetic road condition, people were compelled to take the road connecting via Mokokchung district even to meet the most basic requirement. It added that YSU and LSU would continue to support the ENSF genuine demand until its aspirations were fulfilled.
