Dimapur, Nov. 9: Student’s from across the district of Dimapur and Peren from various schools and colleges, participated in the first ever winter spot painting competition organised by Wotsa Fine arts and Training Centre (WFATC) in collaboration with All Nagaland Fine Arts Teachers’ Association (ANFATA), held at Hotel Saramati, Dimapur on Nov. 9.
The competition offered an opportunity to students’ to display their best artistic talent and skills. The students were divided into three groups, sub-junior (class 1-6), junior (class 6-9) and senior level (Class 10 and up). 64 students in total from 10 schools and colleges took part in the competition under three different themes. For the sub-junior level, the theme was ‘nature of beauty, for junior level ‘environment free’ was the theme abd for seniors the theme was pollution respectively.
Pushika Awomi, the previous president of the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) exhorted the organisers for conducting the painting competition with a large number of students taking active part and showing interest in the world of art.
“I am a passionate observer of art and we are all here with the single objective to watch the beauty created by the artist or student,” Awomi said.
While citing art as an exhibition of one’s visual or mental image which is put into a canvas, Awomi also viewed art as an “explanation of the inner thoughts” of the artist.
Awomi further encouraged the students to learn from their teachers and parents as they will be the ones to “push the artist towards” the vision to be depicted.
“The mental capability of a person and the visualization which is put into a picture is pure talent,” he said regarding artists as people who think differently that a normal human being.
The winners of the sub-junior level were Zaara Abdul from (Hope Academy School), Ishumeet kaur, (Hope Academy School) and Raddhima also from Hope Academy School for securing the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize respectively.
For the junior level, Amisha Anand from Pranab Vidyapith Hr. Sec School, Olivili Yepthomi from Holy Cross Hr. Sec. School and Grace from a Govt. Hr. Sec. School took the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize.
Under the senior level, Atoholi Awomi, Rahul Alam and Vili Chophy traning at the WFATC took the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize respectively.
