Mokokchung, May 13 (EMN): Tenyimi Students’ Union Mokokchung (TSUM) observed its 20th annual general conference on the theme “Nurturing Roots” with R Daniel Angami, EAC Mokokchung, as the resource person at Town Hall, Mokokchung, on Saturday.
TSUM comprises of five units- Nagaland University, Clark Theological College, ICIT, GNM and Fazl Ali College with a total of more than 200 plus members.
Addressing the conference, Daniel said Nagas’ root is based on oral tradition adding under such structure dialect or the mother tongue becomes very important to know about our roots.He said the feeling of oneness comes when one expressed ourselves in our dialect or the mother tongue. Under such circumstances, he encouraged the students to give important in learning their language.
Daniel also expressed his fear that too much modification on rich traditional attires will attribute to the loss of original value symbolised in our traditional attires. He also added that traditional attires indicate one’s own linkage and identity.
He also lamented that folksong, which carries a deep meaning of one’s own identity, has become a dying art in this present generation. He, therefore, urged the students to give more emphasis in understanding the deeper meaning of the folksongs and preserving the rich ethos.
Earlier, secretarial reports were also presented during the conference and presidential address was tendered by Ngviiyhum Tep.
