Dimapur, May 12 (EMN): The peace activist from Kohima Susan Kulnu along with Ayekali Aye, Elivi and Lulu Awomi volunteers from Don Bosco College Kohima capacitated the students of Don Bosco Hibgher Secondary School (DBHSS) and Christ King Higher Secondary School (CKHSS) on May 10.
During the programme at CKHSS, Kulnu spoke on “Peace and peace building”.
She said peace is one of the most essential requirements of humanity and a necessary pre-requisite for progress, development and sustainability.
She emphasised on the main objective of peace and peace building and motivated the students to understand the concept of peace, to think of peace, love peace and make peace so as to take up initiatives in one’s own home and locality, to transform a culture of violence into a culture of peace.
She added that peace building is an intervention that is designed to prevent the start or resumption of violent conflict by creating sustainable peace.
Ayekali Aye spoke on skills needed for peace building. Addressing the peace club members at DBHSS, she said that peace building consists of a wide range of activities associated with capacity building, reconciliation and societal transformation. It is especially designed to address the causes of conflict, the grievances of the past and to promote long term stability and justice.
She also stressed on some of the essential skills for peace-building including critical thinking, communication skills, dialogue, mediation, and rapport building.
The sessions were concluded with peace prayer and peace Anthem initiated by Lulu Awomi and Elivi thus, students were urged to become peace builders and to be more responsible in doing their duties at school, home and locality.
