KOHIMA, APRIL 23
‘All careers and professions are equally important and respectable. One should have respect for all kinds of professions and careers’ said Vipralhou Kesiezie, retired Director of SCERT to the students.
He was addressing to students at a career guidance programme on the topic ‘Tuning your career,’ organized by Kohima Village Students’ Union on April 23. While noting the craze among both the parents and students to go for doctors and engineering courses, Vipralhou said there are hundreds of jobs equivalent to doctors and engineers while many doctors and engineers are without job. Therefore, he asserted that this is time for all to have a real look at planning one’s future careers.
‘For too long we have neglected and ignored the public competitive examinations like the NPSC, UPSC and we have pushed the best brains to technical courses like doctors and engineers all these years, and we are not able to recognize the importance of public civil services,’ said Vipralhou and stressed that ‘this is the time for us to push our best brains to these competitive exams, where our people are not found or available’.
While stating the cause of the biggest problem in a student’s life is taking the wrong decision for studies and careers, Vipralhou said the most crucial thing in a student’s life is to take the right decision, to prepare for it and to go for it.
With the change of time, he said news jobs are emerging in the job market every day with vast and huge scope. In this regards, he asked the students to honestly ask themselves on what kind of jobs they really wants to do in life.
At the same time, he advised the students to never allow others to influence their decisions for their future career stating that wrong decision could lead to frustration and failures in one’s life. He asked the students to take a realistic, practical, proper and right decision.
While pointing out that it is important to properly think and plan while taking decisions, he said ‘all of you are at the crossroads, and you can go to any direction. It is up to you which road you decide to take the journey to reach your destination’.
Advising the students never to lose heart even if one could not achieve the same thing that other friends have achieved, he said every individual has been born, made, designed and gifted by God to fit into a job, do well and excel in it. A person, he said, should never underestimate oneself but rather believe in themselves to excel in life.
Also sensing the change of trend and pattern in the employment market, Vipralhou said the employers today look for a person with good public relations, politeness, courteous, respectful, pleasant personality, humility, smartly or properly dressed. Besides, he also mentioned that with some added cutting edge qualities like good communication skills, multi skilling task, techno savvy etc, one could become a game changer.
Challenging the students, he said it is for the present generation to bring change, transformation and improve the quality of life, while adding ‘you are responsible not only for the present time but also responsible for the next 20-30 years. You are not responsible not only to make or perform the usual routine works but you are responsible to innovate, create new ideas, new thinking and new concepts’ and translate that into action.’
Also pointing out at the failure of the three pillars of the society i.e. government, executive and judiciary in all fronts, he asked the students to bring about change and transform the society. ‘Dream big, visualize, plan and convert your dreams into action,’ advised the educationist.
The programme was chaired by Noumviizolie Sachii, general secretary KVSU, while the invocation was offered by Ruokuovituo Robert, Catechist Christ King Church, and the vote of thanks proposed by Khrietuo Pienyii, vice president KVSU. Dr. Fr. AJ Sebastian, former Head and Prof Department of English, NU, gave a motivational talk.
