Dimapur, March 3 (EMN): Two students’ organisations in Dimapur have asked the district’s development authorities to undertake ‘major’ road repairs on a road that runs from the Dimapur Central Jail at 4th mile to Niuland.
The Niuland Area Students' Union and the Ato Area Students' Union issued a joint statement on Sunday asking the authorities to attend to the road, one of the area’s busiest roads but now stated to be in a deplorable condition.
The organisations appealed to the Public Works department (roads and bridges), to ‘undertake major road repairs from 4th Mile, Central Jail, Dimapur to Niuland.’
“The said road, which is considered to be the busiest among the adjoining town under the district, is in a very deplorable condition. The said road serves as an important lifeline for more than 60 villages and is also used as an alternate route to Kohima,” the organisations stated.
‘During the monsoon season, the road turns into a riverbed on which commuters undergo untold hardships. Therefore, the unions appeal to the department in concern to treat this as a special case, and initiate major repairs and provide an all-weather road at the earliest.’
