Dimapur, March 21 (EMN): Teachers and students of Dimapur Commerce College have pledged to spend 100 hours every year or two hours every week towards maintaining cleanliness in their surroundings. They have also vowed not to litter or allow anyone to litter.
The students and teaching faculty took the pledge during a mass cleanliness drive in the college campus and the Dimapur Civil Hospital as part of the two-day Swacch Bharat programme with the BJP national convenor of Swacch Bharat and director of Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation Limited (TRIFED), Government of India, Yashwant Singh Darbar which culminated on March 20.
Starting from the individual, their family, locality, village and workplace, the students have pledged to take the message of cleanliness from village to village and street to street.
They have also pledged to get 100 more people to take the pledge and motivate them to spend 100 hours in a year towards maintaining cleanliness.
The party has thanked the teaching faculty particularly the college vice principal, Prof. AK Singh and the students for the initiative and cooperation towards realising the Swachh Bharat goals and spreading the message of cleanliness among the young generation for a better and healthier future.
Following the mass cleanliness drive, an interactive session was held with state BJP workers, government departments and NGOs at Tourist Lodge, Dimapur, chaired by the party general secretary Lima Onen. National convenor of social media Miss Veronica TK Savanai had highlighted on the Swachh mission and programmes.
Vinizo Tsurho, state president of ST Morcha, has encouraged the party workers to be determined to realise the Swachh goals to better our surroundings. Representatives of NGO expressed their opinion on the cleanliness efforts with fruitful references to the scientific efforts in foreign countries and offered suggestions to better the environment.
Meanwhile, Yashwant Singh Darbar has expressed happiness on the efforts undertaken in the state both within the party as well as through the brand ambassadors of the state appointed by the governor. He said continuous effort to improve the surroundings is a must if we are to move ahead with the times in terms of health, wealth and spiritually. He encouraged all to keep up the efforts and assured a major Swachh Bharat programme in the coming months.
Jaangsillung Gonmei, state BJP general secretary, thanked the gathering for their presence in making the programme a success. He added that the two-day event was the first joint efforts of the state party, government departments and NGOs. He looked forward to an even more cooperative effort with the support of the people to better the environment in the days to come.
The party thanked the PHE minister Jacob Zhimomi and legislator H Tovihoto Ayemi for their financial support in setting up the party’s new Swachh Bharat office at NST Colony, near Clock Tower, Dimapur, which was inaugurated by Yashwant Singh on March 19.
