
Dimapur, March 9 (EMN): Nagaland Zoological Park (NZP), in collaboration with the Central Zoo Authority of India (CZAI), conducted an awareness programme on conservation of Blyth’s Tragopan-The state bird of Nagaland, at the Blyth’s Tragopan Breeding Center in Kohima on March 8.
In her introductory address, the NZP director, Dr. C Zupeni Tsanglao, pointed out that there was lack of awareness among the people to conserve the Blyth’s Tragopan despite being the Nagaland state bird. She, therefore, urged upon the participants especially the students to play an active role in spreading awareness for conservation of Blyth’s Tragopan, an update from NZP stated.
She also lauded the efforts of the Khonoma nature conservation and Tragopan center on their community-based approach on conservation of Blyth’s Tragopan and encouraged them to take part in disseminating awareness for conservation of Blyth’s Tragopan.
The chief wildlife warden of Nagaland, Vedpal Singh, pointed out the paradigm shift on the conservation of wildlife in Nagaland particularly on Blyth’s Tragopan as people have now put efforts to work in collaboration with the Forest department. He congratulated the winners of the poem writing competition on Blyth’s Tragopan and encouraged them to be a brand ambassador for conservation of wildlife.
It stated that winners of the online poem writing competition on Blyth’s Tragopan were felicitated.
The programme was chaired by officer in-charge of Blyth’s Tragopan Breeding Center, Kohima, Medolezo Kire and the vote of thanks was pronounced by officer in-charge NZP, Watisungla Amer.
