Dimapur, June 12 : Western Yimchungrü students have raised question why the Nagaland government and administration continue to tarry from intervention and resolution to lawlessness in Tuensang and Kiphire.
In a press release, the Western Yimchungrü Students’ Union (WYSU) has stated ‘numerous accounts of lawlessness in Tuensang district and disappearance of an individual, a family and brutal murder of police personnel in Tuensang district.’ It said the public faith and trust in the administration and security personnel are fading away day by day.
The statement referred to the recent disappearance of one S Kumcho, who reportedly went missing between Helipong and Sotokur village. His whereabouts are yet to be confirmed even after a lapse of two months since April 11, the union stated.
“The Yimchungrü community also wants the full report on the illegal abduction of Smti Kiuthsangla Yimchungrü and her teenage daughter Ms Chilula Yimchungrü by miscreants on 09/12/2014, and whether a SIT has been constituted for the same. The Yimchungrü citizens are not safe even in their own district and are very vulnerable as anything can happen to them anytime in the form of physical attack, damage to properties and even loss of lives,” the union stated.
Further, the union alleged that a policeman of the DEF of Tuensang, one Chipong Yimchungrü of Chessore village, was abducted from his house and “tortured mercilessly and was admitted to civil hospital by the security personnel. It alleged that he was dragged out from the hospital and hacked to pieces by unruly mobs on 06/02/2015 in front of few security personnel.”
It has attributed occurrence of such incidents due to the failure of the administration and security agencies in providing security to the Yimchungrü populace in the State.
“The initiation of corrective action by the administration has been inordinately delayed in all occasions,” the union statement lamented.
The Union said Yimchungrü community was cooperating with the SIT and with the government mediators to resolve the matter. However, it rued that “the investigations unfortunately have thus far not been comprehensive and are at best one sided, hence not conclusive.” The union stressed that the root cause and actual perpetrators of all these illegal incidents cannot be ignored, especially while taking into account the 2014 case.
The union said the Yimchungrü community has been patient and tolerated the ‘atrocities, injustice and illegal actions’ in Tuensang and Kiphire districts and “still have been standing true as a law abiding citizens of the state for the greater interest of the state and to promote peace and harmony.” However, it added that they are “ready to protest and raise their voices against injustice and harassment if such one sided investigations persisted.
The students’ community and the Yimchungru citizens in general urged the administration and the SIT to ‘work on the evidence available and initiate necessary action so as to bring justice to the aggrieved family members.’
The union also requested ENPO to promote and maintain the “peace zone” in the ENPO jurisdictions in letter and spirit ‘and not merely on paper.’
Meanwhile, Yimchungrü students have also appreciated the CCSU for highlighting the case of the missing mother Kiuthsangla Yimchungrü and her teenage daughter Chilula in their agitations and protest by ‘shedding all boundary and tribal demarcations and stand for justice and peace.’
