Dimapur, Aug. 25: Bringing out the innovative side of the young students, Greenwood Higher Secondary School, Half Nagarjan conducted its 12th annual science exhibition at the school where the students displayed an exclusive array of science models like 12 volt water motor, hydraulic crane, homemade vacuum cleaner, siphon foundation, lemon battery etc leaving the teachers and guest impressed.
The annual science exhibition has come a long way since it was first conducted in 2007 where only 18 science exhibitions were displayed., said assistant teacher and in-charge of Science Club, MC Das.
Das informed that the science exhibition is not only conducted as a part of school function but a type of encouragement to the students to expose their aptitude. He illustrated the life of students as a seed that requires nourishment, and compared the school as a ground that supplements the nourishment. He told the students that one should not attend school only seek good marks and results but to discover their skills, talents and creativity.
The chief manager of SBI evening branch in Dimapur, Haokholen Hangsing, who was the chief guest of the event, advised the students to be sincere and persevere in life.
Recalling his early life as a student of science stream, Hangsing confessed that he was neither the brightest student in his school or in his college but he tried his best to be a sincere student.
“Everyone cannot become a doctor, everyone cannot become a teacher but if you are sincere, your efforts and your perseverance will pay off,” he said.
Sharing the concern of some parents who are unable to financially support their children for further studies abroad, Hangsing informed the students and the parents about the different education loans that can be availed through the bank and asked them to make use of the service if they face hardships in terms of money.
The principal of the school, Uttam Basak, while delivering his words of appreciation, counselled the parents to support and show interest towards their children in their work. “These projects are not only a copy from the book. It is the idea they put in the model,” he said. He then advised the parents to help expand the ideas of their children.
Earlier, four students from different classes took turns in sharing their experiences with science by apportioning different passion, perspective, and ideas about it.
