imapur, May 12 (EMN): A group of bachelor and master social worker and psychology students from Meghalaya and Nagaland institutions had a debriefing session with the management of Bethesda Youth Welfare Centre as a part of their practical exposure programme on May 12 in the CCT conference hall, Walford in Dimapur.
The practical study programme was of 75 to 10 days, an update received on Saturday informed.
Altogether 46 students underwent practical study representing institution such as Martin Luther Christian University, Shillong; Harding Theological College, Tura, Meghalaya; St.Joseph University, Sovima, Nagaland; Witter Theological College, Vankhosung, Wokha; and North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR), Dimapur.
Some of the students also paid a visit the rural Bhandari area of Hayiyan, Liphi and Ruchanyan villages, as part of the learning processes and also fostering cross cultural relationship amongst the people.
“Deep down in my mind, I was always on the impression that there are no longer chemical dependency problem in our society, until I got the opportunity to undergone a practical exposure program at Bethesda Youth Welfare Centre...the scourge of the twin problem of Drug addiction and HIV/AIDS is real and is within our own kitchen, it is a matter of grave concern yet most of us has been so complacent all these years” lamented one of the interns.
“ Walking in the rain for 8-10 km in a day in the humid jungle tract to in a strange land yet amongst the most cheerful and hospitable people of Ruchanyan village from Hayiyan village was a life time experience, sweet memories to cherish for the rest of our lives,” students from HTC, Tura said.
The executive director of the centre, WC Humtsoe exhorted the students to be diligent in their studies and utilise the lessons learned to the best of their abilities.
He also encouraged them to be creative, self confident and become constructive citizens thus making our region more lovable place to lives in.
Certificate of completion of the internship were distributed by the assistant director of the centre, Enoch Kithan.
