Dimapur, April 1 (EMN): A book called “Balladries” A bundle of dreams, hopes and of life and wants, written by students of Don Bosco College Kohima (DBCK) was launched at the residence of Minister of Higher and Technical Education Temjen Imna Along on March 31.
Balladries is a collection of 26 poems written by seven students namely SR Justin, Niki Kath, Keneiounuo, Joyce Lorin, Khrietsi Rhatsu, Grace Kath and Nganyah, who are currently pursuing under graduate course in English at DBCK and also active members of NSS club.
The minister said that the poems are beautiful expression of today’s youth and encouraged the writers to practice self reliance in order to progress. While asserting that the youth of today should be independent, he said “if you’re willing to take the cynicism and criticism of others and work on it and improve on it, it is the greatest achievement.”
Along said the demands of the people today are too big but “needs are less.” By trying to meet the wants of the people, the needs of the people are often forgotten, he said.
He encouraged the youths not only to find success and achievement in earning big but also “see if we are satisfied and can empower others to do positive things in the society,” pointing out that only then one can take it as success. He pointed out that the youth or the students of today are talented and have lots of opportunities; and that one should exploit it.
He said the release of the book by the students is a very positive venture. “It should be an example and also empower others to do the same while they can do so,” he added.
According to the statement issued by the college, this collection of poems included themes about life, love and family. The book project began in 2018 through a project called compassion channel initiated by Dr Kiyasetuo Stephen Vizo for the NSS club of DBCK. The compassion channel is to encourage and to motivate college students to take up compassionate activities or charity works targeting the needy and the downtrodden section of the society through the mission “earning while learning for compassionate works” under the slogan “Giving better than taking”.
