Dimapur, Sep. 23 (EMN): The Konyak Baptist Bumeinok Bangjum (KBBB) youth students’ ministry under the Konyak Baptist Church Mon Youth Department in collaboration with ‘Mon Area Program, World Vision India’ organised a district-level one-day seminar on Child Rights and POCSO Act for students of Mon town on Sep. 22, at the council hall which was attended by 559 students and teachers from 18 schools in the town.
A press release received here from the organisers stated that the special guest at the programme, the chairperson of Child Welfare Committee Mon, Tuishimla challenged the students ‘not to allow anyone to discriminate them just because they are a child.’
Asking the students to know their rights and to stand up for their rights, Tuishimla urged the them to be agents of child rights. She also urged the teachers to instil dignity, confidence and self-esteem in the children and also asked them to be careful not to abuse them.
The president of KBCM, Bangshing Konyak also asked the participants to be responsible and educate other children. He pointed out to the participants that they are representing the children of the whole community and therefore, urged them to get the right message and take it the community forward.
During the interactive session, the students raised many questions regarding child rights and the POCSO Act which the resource persons clarified positively. A class 8 student of Sacred Heart School Shongmeth challenged the participants with a slogan “One voice can save thousands of children”.
