- DIMAPUR — The
Chakhesang Students' Union (CSU), in collaboration with the Nagaland State AIDS
Control Society, organised a seminar on HIV and sexually transmitted infections
(STIs) awareness on Friday at Union Christian School, Pfutsero.
- According to an update, the seminar aimed to educate
students about HIV and STIs, their prevention, and the importance of early
detection.
- The event witnessed participation from students of various high
schools and higher secondary schools, with an attendance of over 150 students.
- Pfhülo Sara, president of CSU, delivered the keynote
address, emphasising the importance of awareness and education in preventing
the spread of HIV and STIs. He highlighted the role of young students in
disseminating correct information and breaking the stigma associated with these
infections.
- The main session was led by Hierhotho Kajiri, DIS DISHA,
Phek. He provided in-depth information on the causes, symptoms, and transmission
of HIV and STIs, as well as preventive measures, including safe practices and
medical interventions. He also emphasised the importance of early testing and
treatment and addressed misconceptions and stigmas related to HIV&AIDS.
- As part of the initiative, a voluntary blood testing drive
was conducted, allowing students to undergo HIV screening and counselling. This
step aimed to promote early detection and reduce the stigma associated with HIV
testing.
