Dimapur, Feb. 13: The department of political science of Tetso College in Dimapur organized its annual inter-college Festival on February 11.
A press release issued by the organizers on Monday stated that 11 colleges from Dimapur and Kohima attended the event. The institutions are SM College, C-Edge College, Patkai Christian College, Unity College, Mount Mary College, SD Jain College, Salesian College, Immanuel College, ICFAI University, Tetso College, and Don Bosco College, Kohima. The sponsors for the event were Vodafone, US Pizza, OM Books and Hetika Café, the organisers informed.
The competitions comprised “DoT Talks Paper Presentation” by students, debates and quiz events.
“The DOT Talks Paper Presentation was a new initiative introduced by the college to give students the opportunity to present and engage in critical thinking and intellectual discussions, and to encourage quality research as well as the importance of using correct information to take informed decisions as future leaders in our society,” the press release stated. “The papers of the DOT Talks proceedings will also be published in an e-book to be released very soon by the department. The session had a very encouraging response of 30 abstract submissions in total from which 14 were selected to represent their college.”
The organisers informed that the papers dealt with topics such as the 33% women reservation, the ongoing crisis in Nagaland; illegal Immigration, Nagaland and its economy, and the traditional Naga political system versus the modern political system.
The judges for the session were Dr. Hewasa Lorin, vice principal, Tetso College and Dr. Samuel Wati, professor at NIT Chumukedima.
The winners of the DoT Talks Paper Presentation were: Seyiesi-U Cicilia Mere of Don Bosco College in Kohima landing the first prize; Ahyulo Khing of Tetso College coming at second; Ato Tzudir of Immanuel College bagging the third position.
The debate event touched on the issue of whether the church should play a role in politics. The winners were both from For the Motion team: Best Debater Award went to Shenman Konyak from SM College; the 2nd spot went to Lituna L Jimo from Tetso College.
The debate was moderated by Dominic Khango, HoD Political Science, Salesian College. The judges were Aonuktsung Imchen, Chaplain CIHSR; Father Dr. Suresh Padmanabhan Innocent, Principal, Don Bosco College, Kohima; Alokali, Asst. Professor, department of political science, SD Jain College. In the quiz competition, out of six finalists, the winners were Patkai Christian College winning the first place; ICFAI University the second; Unity College the third. The quiz masters were Pakinzinlui Chawang, Asst. Professor, department of English, Tetso College; and Veduvolu Khusoh, department of English, Tetso College. The festival concluded with a closing ceremony during which trophies, certificates, books and food vouchers were awarded to the winners by Principal Dr. PS Lorin, the organisers informed.
