Dimapur, Aug. 5 (EMN): The Joint Tribal Bodies, Manipur expressed deep concern on the continued closure of Manipur University (MU) since May 30 even after the Vice Chancellor (VC) Pandey has been put on leave for one month to allow fair investigations into the allegations against him by the agitating Manipur University Students’ Union (MUSU) and Manipur University Teachers’ Association (MUTA).
In a press statement received here on Sunday, the student bodies stated that “if the demands of the agitating students and teachers have really been because of their allegations against the VC then they should have allowed the university to reopen and function by now. But the fact that they continue to impose their indefinite bandh in the university speaks of a sinister design to damage the career of tens of thousands of students of the state for some vested interest.”
“Playing politics at the cost of the careers of tens of thousands of students will bring no benefit to the society, but only harm. The university needs to be free of bad politics but be a place of learning, inclusiveness and progress” he added. The student bodies therefore appealed to the agitating students and teachers to immediately cease their agitation and allow the return of normalcy in the university in the best interests of students, who do not need further damage to their careers which have been greatly jeopardised due to the prolonged agitation and closure of the university.
