GHS PWD Colony, Kohima, observes 50th anniversary

Kohima, Sep. 21 (EMN): Government High School, PWD Colony, Kohima, celebrated its 50th anniversary today at the State Academy Hall, Kohima, on the theme “Now and Beyond.” The celebration was graced by Minister for Roads & Bridges, Dr. Neikiesalie Kire as the chief guest.
In his address, Dr. Kire salute the school for coming thus far ever since its establishment in 1967. He particularly lauded the efforts of the pioneers, and also the teaching faculty, who have rendered their best to bring the school to this level.
While stating that the school laid the foundation for many students till date, he urged the present teaching faculty to continue with the same zeal and spirit in order to reach out to the students with quality education.
To the students, he advised them to learn when the time is with them, while he also implored upon them to give back to the society what they have learned in order to bring about a meaningful change in the Naga society. He also encouraged the students to strive with total commitment and dedication to succeed and advised them on the importance of living a disciplined life.
Underlining the importance of the role of parents in the lives of the students, Dr. Kire asserted on the need to play their part in imparting education to their children at home.
Stating that children have different abilities and talents, he urged the teaching community members to mould students according to his/her capabilities. While observing that students, who are weak in studies were often abused, he urged upon the parents to “mould and nurture them according to their talents, skills and abilities,” adding everyone may not be good in studies but have may talent in other activities.
Short speech was also delivered by Gayatri Devi, a pioneer teacher, while Yuileila shared about the journey of the school.
The programme commenced with an invocation pronounced by Rev. Shan Kikon, pastor of Faith Harvest Church, Kohima, which was followed by singing of the school anthem by the students. The welcome address was delivered by Assistant Headmaster, Visasielie Suohu, while Anungla, a student of Class VII recited a poem.
Students of GHS PWD also regaled the programme by presenting songs, choreography, folk song and dance. The vote of thanks was tendered by Kezhalezo Solo.
It may be mentioned here that the school started on August 1, 1967, with ten students. Presently, the school has an enrolment of 420 students. The school was upgraded to Middle School in 2003, and later upgraded to High School in 2010.
