Dimapur, April 8 (EMN): The Tizit Area Students' Union (TASU) has announced a blockade on the Namtola-Mon road from April 11 following what the union stated was the government’s lack of assurance to a demand for upkeep of said road.
The union issued a press release to the media on Saturday.
‘It is to be noted that the Tizit Area Students' Union have received a response letter from the executive engineer (Public Works Department) of Mon on the 8th of April, 2017, requesting the union not to go ahead with the Namtola-Mon road blockade mentioning some work progresses in regard to our demand list,’ the union stated.
“However the union executives after through deliberation on the matter have decided to go ahead with the road blockade as the response letter contains no assurance from the state government or the department concerned.”
Based on the “ultimatum letter” served against the state government, the TASU said it will start launch the blockade on said road from the 11th of April if the demands placed by the union are not fulfilled before the 10th of April.
The union has listed a number of exemptions “in case of failure by the state government to fulfil the demands of the union.” School students, the administration, the military and police personnel on duty; medical personnel are exempted.
“In addition the TASU also would like to add Inter-State connectivity (ISC) road (Tizit-Nokzang) 2010-2011 in the demand list which was missed out in the last ultimatum. However, it is be mention that it was clearly stated in our referendum letter dated 05th January 2017 concerning the said road construction,” the union said.
“The already sanctioned amount of Rs. 3628.730 (thirty six crores twenty eight lakhs seventy three thousand) to the concerned contractor for the ISC road has not executed the works as per the DPR norms and the completion period has expired with very less work progress,” the organisation alleged.
