Dimapur, Aug. 17 (EMN): The All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) has requested the Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Education, Dr. Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, to look into several issues concerning the education sector in the state.
The student body stated in a representation to the union minister that Nagaland has been starving for ‘good educational institutions, better infrastructures, modern facilities and desirable policies’ for years.
Maintaining that the New Education Policy 2020 has its pros and cons, it said the state would take more time to adopt the policy.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=6]‘It is evident that with the given infrastructures and facilities in our state, there will be more of negative repercussions. Therefore, should the New Education Policy be implemented, special attention and special financial assistance must be extended to the state higher education,’ read the representation.
The ANCSU requested the minister to set up a Human Resource Development Centre (HRDC) in Nagaland, saying that teachers from the state had to go to other states for orientation programmes and refresher courses till date. It added that HRDC is a “crucial link between teacher motivation and the quality of education, helping college and university teachers in developing their skills”.
The student body also urged the minister of State for External Affairs and Education to establish a Research Centres and Vocational Training Centres in the state, stating that it would help produce many scholars, researchers, scientists and skilled youths.
It went on to say that the post-matric scholarship for ST students have failed to serve the purpose because of disbursement on instalment basis. Therefore it requested the minister to take up the matter with the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and disburse the scholarship without instalments.
“Also, providing loans to the deprived, meritorious and deserving students from Nagaland to support their academic needs will be highly acknowledged,” read the representation.
