Imphal, July 22 (EMN): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led coalition government in Manipur’s latest transfer of teachers’ evoked sharp reactions from the student’s community in the state. Students of some schools in Imphal on Saturday staged sit in demonstration against the decision of the government. It may be mentioned that around 447 higher secondary teachers were transferred in the state.
On Friday some students and police personnel were injured during a clash between the students and the police here. The clash broke out at around 12 noon when the police tried to stop the students of the school from marching a rally in front of the school gate at Sanjenthong, Imphal. The student tried to march towards chief minister’s bungalow demanding roll back of the transfer of eight teachers from the school.Opposing the transfer of the eight teachers of the school as they have already covered half of the syllabus, CC Higher Secondary School Students’ Union, general secretary, Samson urged the government to cancel the transfer of the eight teachers with immediate effect in the interest of the students who are going to appear the upcoming board and council examinations.
Meanwhile, Principal Secretary Education (s), Vineet Joshi clarified that the transfers were carried out in the interest of the students. He also claimed that the transfer was affected after having done proper assessment based on the student’s strength and vacancy of the schools. Chief minister Nongthombam Biren Singh also informed through the ongoing assembly session on Saturday that the move was taken up for better education system in the state.
According to reports, All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM) and the Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DSAM) have jointly submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister N Biren Singh demanding to improve the existing education system in the state.
