Mokokchung, Oct. 25 (EMN): Irked by the failure of School Education department to deploy appropriate number of teachers to schools, and following the expiry of the 15-day ultimatum served by the Tzurangkong Students Conference (TKM), the student body has resorted to indefinite closure of all schools and EBRCs (Education Block Research Centre) in Tzurangkong range.
Nine schools, including hundreds of students preparing to write their final examinations, have been affected by the closure. The schools are GPS Watyim, GPS Medemyim, GPS Aosenden, GPS Aokum, GPS Aosungkum, GMS Longphayimsen, GMS Moayimti, GMS Chungtiayimsen, and GHS Tzurangkong.
TKM President, Imlisunep, informed Eastern Mirror that the student body, on a number of occasions, had appealed to the concerned department to deploy an adequate number of teachers in schools under the range.
He said TKM had written and submitted representations, memorandums using proper channels and even organised a peaceful rally in May demanding deployment of teachers in schools facing shortage of faculty.
‘Even though proper steps were initiated by the TKM, the department's unresponsive manner purely indicates that they declined to recognise the just demand and deprived the students who are in need of teachers to guide their future,’ he asserted.
At such a juncture, he said TKM served a 15-day ultimatum to the School Education department on October 10, which expired on the 24th.
‘The student body thus initiated a further course of action by closing down all schools and EBRC from Tuesday for an indefinite period or until their demands are met,’ the president stated.
TKM president further warned that the mode of protest may be altered if no positive response is given by the concerned department.
