Student bodies serve ultimatum to School department
United Sangtam Students’ Conference (USSC) and Konyak Students’ Union (KSU) have demanded the School Education department to immediately cancel the rationalisation transfer order of teachers issued on February
DIMAPUR — The
United Sangtam Students’ Conference (USSC) and Konyak Students’ Union (KSU)
have demanded the School Education department to immediately cancel the
rationalisation transfer order of teachers issued on February, while it also
warned to take necessary action if the authority fails to acknowledge its
genuine demand.
In a representation to the principal director of School
Education, USSC, on behalf of student community of Kiphire and Longkhim-Chare
under Tuensang district, has demanded to cancel the order within seven day
claiming that the order violated the Nagaland School Education Service Rules,
2017, which govern school education employees in the state.
While referring to the Nagaland School Education Service
Rules, 2017, it stated that transfers must be conducted fairly, ensuring
stability and adherence to established policies. It, however, stated that the
transfer order appeared to contravene those provisions, causing unnecessary
hardship and administrative disruption.
As the transfer order did not comply with the guidelines
prescribed in the Nagaland School Education Service Rules, 2017 and the
arbitrary transfer would disrupt school operations and negatively impact
student communities, USSC has urged the department to revoke the transfer order
within seven days from the issuance of this representation. It warned that
failure to acknowledge the genuine demand would compel the organisation to take
necessary action, which might impact the normal functioning of educational
institutions within its jurisdiction.
It further instructed the DEO, senior SDEO Kiphire and SDEO
Longkhim not to issue release orders, stating that any officer who fails to
acknowledge the appeal would be doing so at their own risk.
In another statement, the Konyak Students’ Union (KSU) has
issued issue a five-day ultimatum to the concerned authorities to immediately
cancel the rationalisation order and take corrective measures.
It cautioned that failure to act within the given timeframe
would compel the union to take stronger measures including the shutting down of
all government schools and offices in the district as a sign of protest.
It reminded of a representation submitted to the
commissioner and secretary of School Education dated August 22, 2022, clearly
stating that any rationalisation of teachers should not be carried out without
a proper ground reality report. He bemoaned that a major rationalisation was
executed, thereby severely affecting numerous schools across the district.
It stated that the ill-planned decision has resulted in
several primary schools having left with only one teacher, compromising the
quality of education, while some teachers have been transferred outside the
district without relievers, leaving students stranded and helpless.
KSU added that it had submitted a final reminder to the
commissioner secretary of School Education through the deputy commissioner of
Mon dated January 24 urging to appoint 6 PGT at the newly upgraded GHSS-C before
February 10. It added that the concerned authority has failed to address the
same.
It, therefore, urged the responsible authorities to address
the pressing issue at the earliest in the interest of students and the future
of our education system.
