Dimapur, Jan. 9: The 6th Sürümi Award Trust Akighiche Saxu Award Ceremony was held at Sürümi Baptist Church in Aizuto on January 8. Hutoi Ayemi, trustee, was the guest speaker of the event, a press release from the organizers stated on Monday.
The gathering was also exhorted by Hoto K Yeptho and Kiyelu T Yeptho, two successful candidates of the Nagaland Public Service Commission from Sürümi village, the press release stated.
The award was instituted in 2011 under the “authorship” of Alemtemshi Jamir, retired chief secretary of Nagaland, the press release stated.
The ceremony is an annual affair where toppers under four categories of class-IX students from the village are each awarded a cash prize of Rs.10, 000 and a citation.
“The SAT award ceremony which is usually held in December could not be held on the scheduled date owing to hosting of 62nd Sümi Annual Youth Conference,” the press release stated.
The SAT Akighiche Saxu awardees for 2016 are:
Rural category:
Mughalu Q. Sumi (S/o Qheniho and Inashi Jakhalu) of Mount View School, Sürühuto.
Rural (Sürühuto Area):
Ninotoli S. Awomi (D/o Shikato and Shevili)
General (CBSE):
Elovito Ayemi (S/o Hutoi and Elika)
General (NBSE): Angukali N Shikhu (D/o Dr. Nitovi and Kahoni)
The SAT also awarded Akighiche Shepe (certificate of excellence) to three candidates from the village who secured admission to various professional degree courses in 2016, the press release stated.
They are Vinikali HA Suli (D/o late Hetovi and Tokheni Awomi) for B.Tech (civil), Kheto K Achumi (S/o Khekivi and Hotoni) for B.Sc. (Horti) and Vibeto Yeptho (S/o Hewoto and Atele) for B.Sc. (Agri).
Alokali I. Awomi (D/o Iveto and Khetoli) was also awarded a special SAT Akighiche Shepe for being the gold medallist in MA (History) from Madras Christian University in 2015.
“Earlier, the ceremony started with an invocation by NCRC Pastor Mulato Kinny and the congregation was entertained by meaningful and melodious song of Mughavi Aye and Lhighito,” the press release explained.
The two successful NPSC candidates were also felicitated. The pastor of SBC (Aizüto), Hekuto Ayemi, led the prayers, the press release stated.
