DIMAPUR — Strong
winds on Sunday caused a power outage in some areas of Dimapur, which lasted
for more than six hours.
At around 10 am on Sunday, strong and dusty winds in Dimapur
disconnected the power supply across a large section of the Dimapur district.
According to a source from the Department of Power, the
faulty line was discovered on the 33KV line at the Nagarjan substation.
The department’s linemen were at work to restore power
supply to the affected areas.
The power outage continued for over six hours before it was
restored by 4:18 pm.
Meanwhile, the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority
(NSDMA) issued a report card of “considerable damages” caused across the state
by “an unprecedented windstorm.”
In a press release, the NSDMA informed that it had received
reports of damages from three districts: Kohima, Kiphire, and Noklak.
In Kohima, the windstorm felled trees, which ended up
damaging vehicles parked at Raj Bhavan colony “and caused havoc in some of the
VIP quarters in the colony.”
“Reports have also been received of a wildfire at Forest
Colony, Kohima. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), along with all line
departments, has been pressed into action to take stock of the situation and to
provide safety for the people and properties of the colony.
“Further, damage reports have also been received from
Kiphire and Noklak districts where windstorm has caused household damages in
Seyochung and Kiusam circle and Nokyan B Village in Noklak district. Further
damage reports from the District Disaster Management Authorities are awaited
during the filing of this report,” it stated.
