Normal life was affected today in Manipur by the 24 hour general strike called by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) and civil society organisations from midnight today.Markets, shops, business and educational establishments were closed and very few vehicles were on the road.
Attendance in government offices was very less, police said.
The strike supporters blocked roads and burnt tyres.
Imphal-Dimapur and Imphal-Jiribam transport services were suspended and very few public transports was seen in the road.
The strike had been called by the JAC and civil society organisation after three persons including a student were abducted by the Kuki Revolutionary Front (KRF) on Sunday last from Mapao khullen village in Senapati district.
Out of the three, two persons were killed but the 12-year-old student was released by the militants.
Police had arrested eight KRF militants from the Thingsat village in Senapati district under Saikul police station on Wednesday last.
