Imphal, Oct. 15 (EMN): The general strike called by the various armed groups operating in Manipur affected normal life in the state on Saturday.
The strike, which came into effect from 6 am to 6pm on Oct. 15, was called to protest the merger of Manipur to the Indian Union on October 15, 1949.
It was part of observing October 15 as National Black Day.
The strike disturbed vehicular movement in the Manipur, particularly in Imphal.
Functioning of central, state, and private offices; business establishments including market places was also disrupted.
Some of the essential services including medical service, media and religious activities were exempted from purview of the strike.
