Dimapur, May 31 (EMN): The Wokha District Legal Services Authority, Entrepreneurs Associates (EA), Nagaland, and District Administration organised a one-day workshop for women street vendors at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference hall, Wokha on May 30, with an aim to uplift the community and to bring awareness about their rights and privileges.
CEO, Coordinator, Entrepreneurs Associates (EA) Neichute Doulo and Corporate Manager EA, Shirolily Shaiza were the resource persons of the programme, informed an update from DIPR.
Speaking at the workshop, SDO (C), Wokha Chonbenthung Ezung told the vendors that “we can start our own business instead of depending on others as Wokha is a blessed land” and urged the participants to make use of the workshop and put more efforts to expand their business.
Describing the street vendors as the backbone of the family, Ezung said: “Against all odds, you sacrifice everything and sit on the streets selling vegetables just to support your family.” He also reminded them of the government policy on restriction of single-use plastics.
Resource person Duolo said the street vendors are the ‘guardians of local economy’ and that it is time to persuade the Government for implementation of the “Vendors Act” to empower them. Enlightening them about business activities, he appealed them to be honest, hardworking and disciplined to become a successful businessperson.
He also urged them to know the value of money and encouraged them to build the habit of saving small amount from their daily earnings.
Shaiza, who was one of the resource persons of the workshop, spoke on financial inclusion. She informed that the EA has been imparting trainings and workshops to empower the young entrepreneurs in the field of business and solve unemployment problem. She also highlighted loans being given to local businessmen besides various activities and programmes undertaken by the EA so far.
NJS Chief Judicial Magistrate cum Secretary WDLSA, WV Patton spoke on the NALSA (Legal Services to the Unorganised Sectors) scheme 2015, while NJS District & Session Judge cum Chairperson WDLSA, Wokha, NinoIralu presented the keynote address at the programme.
EA, Nagaland, distributed free raincoats to all the 103 street vendors who attended the workshop.
