Kohima, March 21 (EMN): In line with the country-wide cleanliness campaign Swaach Bharat Mission, the fifth edition of the Nagaland Street Fitness was organised at the Heritage, on March 21 in Kohima. The event was organised by Dream Cafe, with the theme ‘Let’s make Nagaland cleaner and fitter.’
A variety of fitness competitions were held for men and women. The disciplines included push-ups, racing, arm wrestling, and tug of war etc. As part of the cleanliness campaign, a number of bins were also distributed during the event.
In the push-up competition for men, Vekota Koza bagged the first prize while the second prize went to Alemba Thongliu. Peteneinuo Rhetso won in the women’s category, while Esther Phom came in the second position.
In the running race for women, Tsuchoi won the first place while Peiheiteile Esalung won the second prize. Tekhenu Lasu and P Pheniang Khiamniungam won the first and second position respectively in the men’s category.
Rukuvoto Nakro emerged the new champion in arm wrestling in the men’s category after winning against Thejasetuo Pienyü. Esther Phom and Hushelü Keyho won the first and second position respectively. A tug of war was also played among members of various gyms. Chesil Bodyworks won the competition.
The event saw a good number of young fitness lifestyle enthusiasts participating.
Fund raiser for underprivileged children
Collaborating with the Nagaland Fitness event, a community group called Global Shapers of Kohima, also organised a fund raising event for underprivileged children in Kohima, at the Heritage.
The event also hosted concerts featuring local artists Papersky, Mar Jamir, Music Academy, Unplugged 3, and others.
In a hope to revive ‘each one, teach one,’ a free tuition centre for children coming from less privileged backgrounds, the Gobal Shapers aimed at providing a hub for all-round education for the children. The centre was originally initiated by an entrepreneur and team member of Kohima Childline Kethosilie Sorhie in 2017.
The centre provided tuitions to around 40 students, from private as well as government schools, on Mondays, and Fridays from 4:30 pm till 5:30 pm.
“We hope to not only expand the horizons of the students in terms of their academic or professional outlook but also crucially promote an educational paradigm which renders obsolete academic proficiency as the sole determinant of the future a child will be able to mould for himself or herself, and, thereby, society at large,” according to the Global Shapers of Kohima.
