Mokokchung, June 24 (EMN): Two individuals have been arrested in connection with the alleged assault of a youth, one Sentilong, during a street brawl in Mokokchung on Friday evening. The youth subsequently succumbed to injuries, reports had said earlier.
The arrested persons have been identified as a Imtinungsang, a 41-year old son of one Akoknukshi from Ungma village presently residing at Sangtemla Ward; one Zulutemjen, a 40-year old son of a Yashirangba from Longmisa village presently residing at Alempang Ward of Mokokchung.
The street brawl reportedly occurred at around 6:00 pm when Sentilong and his friend were drinking at a local joint where the accused had also come to drink, according to police.
During the course, an altercation broke out between them that led to a brawl during which Sentilong was alleged to have been brutally assaulted by the duo, according to police accounts. His friends are said to have tried to prevent the situation from escalating, reports said.
Later, the youth was taken to Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital in Zulutemjen's vehicle but was declared 'brought dead' by the hospital’s authority, sources said. The duo then fled from the scene, police added.
The police sprang into action and arrested the duo at around 11:30 pm late Friday from Longmisa village area and they ‘confessed their deeds,’ reports said.
In this connection, a complaint has been registered at Police Station I (PS-I) of Mokokchung under Section 302/31 IPC. Investigation is being undertaken by the police, it was informed.
