
Dimapur, June 13 (EMN): Under Atma Nirbhar Bharat Scheme (ANBY), free food grains were distributed to 323 households consisting of about 474 members on Saturday at Tiyi hall in Wokha by the department of Food and Civil Supplies.
ANBY is a part of the government of India initiative for economic measures for providing food grains free of cost to the stranded migrants and labourers who are not covered under National Food Security Act or State Public Distribution System (PDS).
The free ration includes 5 Kg of rice per person per month and one kilogram of chana per person per month. The scheme is for the period of two months, May and June, informed an update received here.
The main objective of the scheme is to help or mitigate their plight during this precarious Covid-19 pandemic crisis and to ensure availability of food grains to the stranded needy people.
The district deputy commissioner, Orenthung Lotha while handing over the ration, lauded the central government for coming up with such scheme to help the stranded citizens.
He also asked the stranded citizens to inform the authorities in case of any difficulty and problem faced by them during the pandemic, so that their problems can be addressed.
