The Director General of Software Technology Park of India (STPI) Dr Omkar Rai called on the chief minister of Nagaland TR Zeliang at his residential office today and expressed the interest to set up a Software Technology Park in Kohima and Dimapur.
Dr Omkar Rai and his team apprised the chief minister about their decision to set up Nagaland’s first Software Technology Park. He informed that the infrastructure available at present in Kohima is sufficient for the STP to take off. Apprising the CM about the plans, Dr Rai said initially an incubation centre with provision for Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) would be set up at Kohima and later a separate IT park to be set up in Dimapur. The incubation center will provide art facilities to help the local entrepreneurs in mentoring, nurturing and expanding their business to become export oriented software companies, he added.
Meanwhile, the chief minister TR Zeliang while welcoming the much needed proposal, said that setting up of STPI will not only provide opportunities to the educated unemployed youths, but it will also improve the economy of the State through software exports and IT enabled services.
The chief minister, while stating that Nagaland in the past has been given least preference in many of the newly launched projects, however, shared his happiness over the new developments taking place in the form of STP. “Now I am happy that something new is taking place in the State,” Zeliang said.
The chief minister at the meeting is said to have expressed his hope in the youth of the State, and that he will go the extent to do whatever is needed to pursue with various ministries for the welfare of the youths in Nagaland.
“I have faith in the youth of Nagaland. The time has come for the State to act practically and professionally. And I will do whatever is needed to pursue with various ministries,” CM Zeliang said.
According to a press note issued by CMO media cell, the chief minister has agreed to provide all necessary support with the hope that such initiatives will open new avenues for the economic growth of the State and also create employment opportunities for the youths. The director general of STPI was accompanied by the Commissioner & Secretary, IT, KD Vizo and three other team members from STPI.
