Sting turned 63 on Thursday and emerged from the orchestra pit at the Neil Simon Theatre to sing after the curtain call at the fourth preview of his new musical, “The Last Ship.”
He sang “Jock the Singing Welder,” a song he wrote that never made it into the show, as the audience, including wife Trudie, stayed on their feet. Sting said, “I wouldn’t normally do this . . . but it’s my birthday, and I always sing on my birthday!”
Earlier, he was presented with a ship-shaped cake, and the cast and crew sang “Happy Birthday.”
