Imphal, July 25 (EMN): Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar in the ongoing assembly session on Tuesday said that steps are on for the implementation of the 7th pay commission in the state. Finance minister also said the house that there were about 74,200 state government employees excluding some employees working in the educational institutions, judicial services etc as per information provided by the state chief secretary led feedback committee which was set up on 14 December last year to study the feasibility of implementing the 7th pay commission.
Explaining the reason for the government’s inability for the implementation of the 7th pay at this juncture, he said the state government will have financial implications of about Rs.1768.33 crores only on salaries (without pension). The then 14th finance commission awarded a sum of Rs. 40,763 crores against the demand of Rs. 50,742 crores. The new pay commission could be considered for its implementation if the required amount was sanctioned for the state, he added.
Recalling that the 5th pay commissions was implemented in the state only on January 10,1999 instead of September 11,1996 while 6th pay on April 1,2010 instead of January 1, 2006, he said the government will also take time for its implementation. So presently we couldn’t pronounce the time frame, he added.
