Dimapur, May 1
Mothers in Phek district have vented fury at what they alleged was the torture of a child, said to be aged only around three- and a half, by a woman implied to be his stepmother.
A visibly incensed Phek Village Mothers’ Association (PVMA) issued a scathing press release condemning one Mulevolii Vero “who with an ill intend tortured her 3½ years old boy for several months.”
Besides the press release, the association enclosed an image showing a small hand and a foot on which were gaping raw wounds that the mothers said were caused by burns.
PVMA’s president Vekhozolii Soho and general secretary Surhonielu Keyho said in the statement that said Vero was the step mother of the boy. They were said to be residing in Dimapur. The accused “tortured her step son and physically abused the minor boy by burning both hands and legs with candle and other ignitable items.”
“…the step mother accused her step son to be of mentally challenged and insane. The episode was reported to have taken place for the last 3 months,” the note said. Stating that the alleged act was “devilish” and “beyond human tolerance,” the PVMA has appealed to the public to condemn it.
‘…(the) dastardly act has brought shame and disgrace the entire womenfolk and has no place to live in the civilized society,’ it added.
