Dimapur, Feb. 5 (EMN): Nagaland’s weekly Covid-19 sample positivity rate decreased from 19.1% to 13.2% this week ending February 4 after positive cases dipped from 832 recorded in the previous week to 570.
The update from the Health department stated that the weekly sample positivity rate decreased from 23.2% to 15.4% in Dimapur. The other districts that recorded more than 10% weekly positivity rate are Kohima and Tuensang.
Out of the 570 new cases reported during the week, more than 70% was from Dimapur alone, informed the update, adding that “65% of cases were detected from self-tests/ symptomatic based testing and 21% were among travellers”.
Maintaining that all the six deaths reported during the week had comorbidities and only one was fully vaccinated, the Health department said that’ vaccination of people with comorbidities remains the most important measure to reduce deaths’.
The update informed that 38 new Covid-19 hospital admissions were recorded this week and79% of patients reported in the third wave (since January 2022) have been classified under mild category, 12% under moderate and 8% as severe, compared to 27% severe cases in the delta wave last year.
More than 14.8 lakh doses of Covid vaccines, including 49,659 doses among teenagers, have been administered across the state so far, it was informed.
The Health department went on to highlight the importance to wearing the right mask, saying that it lowers the odds of testing positive. People who reported always wearing a mask in indoor public settings were less likely to test positive for Covid-19 than people who didn’t, it said citing the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
