Dimapur, Dec. 16 (EMN): Nagaland state legal services authority (NSLSA) won an award for the best zonal state legal services authority basing on the new initiatives taken by having its own theme song and creating awareness through media, active use of digitisation, translation of the legal services literature into local dialects, formation of legal literacy clubs in schools, legal services clinics, organising mega and mini legal services camps and active participation in carrying out the action plans.
Besides, Tingkai Konyak from Mon district won the best zonal para legal volunteer award for his exemplary services in giving free home tuitions to children below poverty line, reaching out to the victims of landslides, participating in medical camp, door to door campaign as resource person in legal awareness camp, visiting jails, homes, helping women victims, getting financial assistance from government for mentally challenged person etc.
The awards were given at the commendation ceremony of the national state legal services authority (NSLSA) under the aegis of the Supreme Court of India in acknowledging the exemplary work done in the areas of equality and justice. The function was held on December 15 at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi, in the presence of the union minister of law and justice & IT, Ravi Shankar Prasad as the chief guest.
Awards were given to the national and zonal best state legal services authority, best district legal services authority, best panel lawyer and best para-legal volunteers.
The chief guest, in his speech, has congratulated the national legal services authorities led by Justice Madan B Lokur and his team and the jury for the transformation to access justice for all. He said that such defining moment is important because it shapes the entire country which feels the pulse of the people. He said that the national legal services authority movement is filling up the gap by becoming a big flame of empowerment.
He encouraged the para-legal volunteers and panel lawyers to maintain the passion. He asserted that the award should impel them to work with more passion and emotion. He suggested the panel lawyers to visit jails and take details of the under trial prisoners, to be pro-active for bonded labours for children and keep legal literacy in the forefront for mass movement.
The programme was attended by in-service and retired judges of Supreme Court and High Court as well as executive chairpersons and member secretaries of the various state legal services authorities, chairpersons and secretaries of the best district legal services authorities from all over India, judicial officers, government officials and other dignitaries.
Nagaland was represented by justice N Kotiswar Singh, judge of Gauhati High Court and executive chairman of Nagaland state legal services authority; Mrs Mezivolu T Therieh, member secretary of Nagaland state legal services authority; Niechochiyi Suyie, district and sessions judge, Zunheboto, and chairman of Zunheboto district legal services authority; Atoka Achumi, civil judge (Jr.), Dimapur, and former secretary of Zunheboto district legal services authority; Sunjib Rana, panel lawyer of Kohima district legal services authority; Tingkai Konyak, para-legal volunteer (PLV) of Mon district legal services authority.
