Kohima Oct. 2 (EMN): To mark the successful completion of the four-day mass social work, a ‘culmination programme’ for Kohima district was held at the deputy commissioner’s conference hall on Tuesday. Advisor to Rural Development, Dr. Neikiesalie Kire attended the event.
Kire congratulated the district administration and the Kohima town panchayat members for the success of the mass social work in the district. He also asked them to cooperate and team up for upcoming social projects for the benefit of Kohima.
Encouraging the gathered colony panchayat leaders at the programme, the legislator asked them to be bold in administrating the rules deemed fit for their respective colonies as they were already empowered and authorised by the colony people when they were selected to represent and become the voice and actions of the colony.
He appealed the colony panchayat leaders to check and stop illegal construction of buildings by demarcating public places, especially drainage system. He also stressed on the unethical discharge of septic tanks by the citizens adding that the colony panchayat can curb this uncivilised action by checking and prohibiting the septic tank outlets to be channelled to the drainage systems.
He also requested the district administration to check the illegal dumping of construction materials and leaving it unattended on the roadside causing nuisance to public as well as the traffic in the capital. He further said that unless some stringent actions were taken against the defaulters, people would continue to dump materials and keep it unattended for weeks and sometimes months.
During the award ceremony for best performing colony and department during the mass social work, D-block colony bagged the first place followed by upper jail colony and Naga Bazar colony respectively.
The best performing department went to Home Guards & Civil Defence followed by Executive Engineer (R&B), south division Kohima, and Treasury Office, North Kohima. All the winners were awarded cash prizes and a citation certificate from the district administration.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by I Changsang, EAC (dev), and Rajesh Soundaranjan, DC Kohima, gave the opening report on mass social work observed in the district. Vote of thanks was delivered by Daniel Angami EAC (revenue). Short speeches were also delivered by Kovi Meyase, KMC administrator, and Vekhosa Chakesang, Kohima Superintendent of Police.

With the culmination of state-wide mass social work. Indisen was awarded for the cleanest village in Dimapur district, while Duncan Bosti and Kuda village B khel were awarded the second and third prizes. Winners were awarded cash prizes during the programme held in the office of the deputy commissioner on October 2.
As part of the state-wide mass social work, Dimapur district led by the district administration successfully conducted cleanliness drive from September 29 to October 2.
Speaking at the culmination programme, DC Dimapur, Sushil Kumar Patel, remarked that conducting the mass social work in Dimapur was more like a celebration and a wonderful experience to see people from different communities and different walks of life coming together for a single cause and further appealed the people to make it as a continuous process.
He acknowledged the youth, chairmen, NGOs and all the individuals from different colonies for their active participation in the social work. The DC also appreciated the various departments and individuals who have provided machineries during the cleanliness drive.
The programme was chaired by EAC Dimapur, Tsidi, while the invocation prayer was pronounced by Lima, youth evangelist, and ADC, Dimapur, Albert Ezung, proposed the vote of thanks.
