The pre-Christmas celebration of Legislators was held at State Banquet Hall on the theme “Emmanuel” on December 13.
Delivering his greetings, State chief minister TR Zeliang said Christmas is the season to exchange gifts, have community or church Christmas feasts together and termed such customary practices ‘very good,’ and encouraged to continue the age old tradition.
He said Christ Jesus came to this world on Christmas Day to forgive and wipe out all the sins of mankind, so that a new relationship is built between God and man. He desired that this Christmas we should all try and build new or better relationships, based on forgiveness and good will towards one another, a CMO press release said.
“Let us also relay and radiate that love and goodwill towards all our fellow human beings, not only during this Christmas season, but throughout the coming year” he said.
He urged all to start exchanging mutual goodwill amongst ourselves, beginning right from this service, and continue it throughout the year. Concluding his message, he wished all merry Christmas and prosperous New Year.
The programme was chaired by Amenba Yaden while special songs were presented by Rengma Baptist Church Choir Kohima, male voice i/c Toyang Chang and James Basnnet band. A short Christmas greeting was delivered by Pankaj Kumar, Chief Secretary, and bible reading and prayer was pronounced by Mrs Mhalo TM. Bible narration on the theme Emmanuel (Mathew 1:23) was delivered by the speaker Rev. Zhabu Terhuja.
In a related programme, Northern Angami Colony, Dimapur, solemnly welcomed the birth of ‘Prince of Peace’ this afternoon at the Colony ground. The pre-Christmas celebration was hosted by Kahuto Kiho and his family with the active participation of the whole residents from diverse tribes.
Exhorting the gathering, Colony Council advisor Kevise Sogotsu urged the members to present the greatest gift to Christ with renew hearts during this Christmas. He appealed the residents to restrain from unwanted activities which are displeasing in the sight of God but to celebrate Christmas in its true spirit signifying the birth of ‘Prince of Peace.’ Kevise urged change of heart to believe in God and the willingness to forgive one another.
Kevise declared with pride that the Colony is most peaceful area to reside. He has attributed the paradigm transformation to the unity among the residents. He has further conveyed Christmas greetings.
Rev. Amos Humtseo, Director of Christ for City International, advised the parents to spend quality time with family as he warned that many parents might be tempted to go astray during this Christmas. He also advised the youth to be with family to avoid any unwanted accident. The host Kahuto Kiho also spoke on the occasion.
Special songs from different groups have added colours to the celebration.
Bonfire, fireworks and entertainment marked the evening programme.
